The Camera Box is a full-service portrait, wedding and commercial photography studio serving the greater Harrisburg and Central Pennsylvania area for over 30 years. Founded in 1972, The Camera Box has always been a leader in the Harrisburg area photographic industry.

In 1978 the company established its own in-house full color darkroom lab facility. In 1993 we became the first local studio to install an Electronic Previewing System. In 1995 we took our first steps into digital photography, and in 1997 we installed a Fuji Pictrography photo printer and a high-speed negative scanner.  In 1999 we switched from film-based capture to digital cameras in our two studio camera rooms.  In 2001 we were among the first studios in the world to install a Digital Photochemical Printer for our high-quality photographic printing needs. Also in 2001 we began to sell photos online, offering our customers a new way to view photos and place orders.

We are also the first portrait studio in the Harrisburg area to switch to a digital workflow for nearly 100% of our work.  That transition, initiated in 1997, was completed in 2002.   Digital photography equals or exceeds the traditional portrait cameras that we used for years in terms of quality, and digital is much more environmentally friendly than any other current photographic process.

We continue to custom-print nearly all of our work in-house, as we have since 1998.  Our goal is always to increase the quality of our work while decreasing the amount of time it takes to produce our orders.  Every year since 1998 we believe we have met that goal.

We believe in supporting the local community and the local economy.  Our staff is always glad to volunteer time to speak to schools and photographic groups.  We also support many local community and volunteer programs.

Geoff Shearer started his career as a photography assistant at the Camera Box while attending Camp Hill High School. After graduation from Susquehanna University, he joined the studio full-time as a portrait, wedding and commercial photographer. The knowledge of his craft, passion for technology and his understanding of business helped him make the transition to President of The Camera Box in 2000. Geoff is an expert in digital photography including digital workflow and production. In addition to his role as photographer, he directs all aspects of training, education and production at the studio. He also personally oversees the printing of all orders.

He is a requested speaker for local career fairs, photography clubs and business programs. Geoff was named one of the "Forty Under 40" in business by the Central Penn Business Journal, and he is a former member of the MS Leadership Class that helped raise over $70,000 for Multiple Sclerosis research and education. As a previous gold key winner, Geoff created a special annual photography award through the Patriot-News’ Scholastic Art Awards for high school students. He is also a member of the Professional Photographers of America and the National Association of Photoshop Professionals.

Tammy Shearer joined the staff of The Camera Box as Manager upon graduation from Susquehanna University. After discovering her passion for photography, her role has expanded to Vice President and full-time photographer. She attended the Triangle Institute of Photography, and she was one of three national award recipients of the Susan A. Hudson Memorial Scholarship sponsored by Fuji Film. Her connection with people motivates her to make each portrait session an enjoyable experience, and she thrives on situations that require additional or special attention such as photographing children and adults with special needs.

Her passion lies in community involvement and philanthropic activities. She is the studio’s direct contact for the Newspapers In Education Program sponsored by the Patriot-News Co. She has increased The Camera Box’s involvement with several charitable organizations including The Fore Kidney’s Sake Foundation, The American Diabetes Assoc., The United Way, United Cerebral Palsy (UCP), and The Multiple Sclerosis Society. She is also a member of the Professional Photographers of America, Professional Photographers of Pennsylvania, Executive Women International, and she is a Director for the West Shore Chamber of Commerce.

Geoff and Tammy are the area’s leading husband and wife photography team. While studio portrait sessions allow them to showcase their individual abilities, they enjoy combining their talents for special occasions such as weddings and corporate functions. With years of experience and motivation to please their customers , they are an unbeatable team. The Susquehanna University Alumni Association recognized their personal and professional contributions by naming Geoff and Tammy Young Alumni of the Year for 2004.

Geoff and Tammy support the rescue of abandoned and/or abused animals, and they encourage the adoption of domestic pets from local animal shelters. For this reason, The Camera Box will donate a portion of its proceeds from all pet sittings to PAWS, The Preservation of Animal Welfare and Safety, Inc.
